Carlín Díaz

After graduating from the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas with a degree in visual arts and graphic design, Díaz moved to Paris in 2012. There, he produced animations and worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines, including The Washington Post and The New York Times. Over time, his interest in painting and other physical media grew, leading him to relocate to Brussels in 2019. In 2025, he completed an MFA in Painting at La Cambre, where he graduated with the Prix des Amis de La Cambre, and was also awarded the Fondation CAB Prize.

Díaz's paintings are composed of synthesized figures: humans, trees, mountains, and stars. Within which concentric rings of color emerge. These chromatic structures function as abstract manifestations of energy, understood as what is felt before it is translated into words or fixed interpretations. Rather than describing psychological states, the works hold momentary configurations of experience, allowing sensation to remain open, unstable, and non-verbal.

For this exhibition, Díaz presents Sabana, a video created between 2022 and 2025, which reveals a fragment of the main figure’s inner world: a daydream unfolding within a landscape that feels digitally constructed, almost computer-generated, while paradoxically expressing a desire to reconnect with the experience of being part of “nature.” Alongside the video, a selection of paintings extends these ideas into color and form, bringing human and non-human figures into dialogue and inviting viewers to inhabit these moments of experience.
